Message Folks, I need some help, would appreciate any and all ideas.

My first objective is to conclusively diagnose and resolve the problem, which is this:

I have bought the Blitz R-VIT Type 2 and the BlaZt cable with the Nissan Datascan software. I think most people know about both of these but here are links:

These products plug into the CONSULT connector and monitor ECU information in real-time.

** None of these products works at all on my car. **

My car is 92TT -- BUT -- I do not have my original ECU.

(Just to be super clear: when I say ECU here and elsewhere, I'm referring to the entire computer unit in the metal box -- not just the EPROM chip.)

The ECU I have now was sold to me by a shop that worked on my car several years ago. This ECU has a Nissan sticker that says "remanufactured" on it.

At this point I do not know if that has any relationship to the problem.

I have SUCCESSFULLY tested both the R-VIT and the BlaZt cable on two other cars: a 93TT (at SpecialtyZ) and a 91 NX2000. So there does not seem to be any problem with the products themselves.

There seems to be a specific, unusual incompatibility between my ECU and these devices. :o(

To make this even more puzzling: while I was at SpecialtyZ, Seb tried hooking up a Techtom to my car -- and it WORKED.

I've taken my car to several different Nissan dealers on numerous occasions. I -infer- they had no problem getting CONSULT readouts from my car because they have never said anything to me about it. Although now it occurs to me that I should have asked Greg to doublecheck this on my car using his consult rig ... durrrrrr

I searched on TT.NET extensively and found this thread started by member whitepearlz describing the exact same problem:

So that's the situation I have now: $450 of tools that don't work on my car. Does anyone have a conclusive diagnosis of the exact problem here? Better yet, a remedy?

My second objective, failing the first, is to get a replacement ECU that resolves the problem.

What is your advice for clever inexpensive ways to get a replacement ECU? :o)

I will try calling around wrecked-part places.

Does anyone have an ECU sitting around they would be interested in trading or selling to me?

I'm also going to try getting in touch with the shop that originally sold me this ECU and try to talk them into trading it.

Please give me any and all thoughts and ideas!
